The great thing about rally racing — other than the awe-inducing talent, the powerslides, and the sound of climaxing turbos — is the fact that while each race stage is long and often times desolate, some driver always manages to biff it right in front of a camera. And for as carefully as each car must be constructed, there's a certain voyeuristic thrill in seeing how easily a rocky field can disassemble one. YouTube's offerings of such sights are endless, but we've put together our ten favorite moments in rally failure right here. No cheesy death metal played over compilations, just the raw sounds and sights of individual crashes. Hit our forums to make a case for your own favorite.

Sometimes crashes don't need lots of speed or a yard sale of flying parts to be memorable. This little red Citroen gives proof positive of the small investment/large gain philosophy of rally crashes. Plus, isn't it nice to watch something you're sure is injury-free?

Here's another example from the light-hearted side, unless you happen to be a whitetail deer. Driver Travis Pastrana was just minutes away from driving his Subaru to victory in a January, 2008, snow rally when this happened. Venison, anyone?

After this close call, we heard the guy you see in the shiny yellow vest became a born-again treehugger. He now circles the globe chaining himself to precious pines, each time exclaiming, "Just returning the favor!" He also demonstrates the proper execution of Rally Spectator Rule #1: Always have something to hide behind.

Rally Spectator Rule #1 (see above) exists because of situations like this. The crash itself is spectacular on its own, but the driver gets bonus points for performing the six-roll masterpiece mere inches from a massive crowd. Fortunately, it looks like no one walked away with more than a mouthful of mud.

This clip wouldn't have found its way up the list if it weren't for the graceful flip topped off with a burst of flames to end the crash. That and, wait — did the face of Satan himself cut in there for a few frames?

It's hard to see what caused this slide, but the result is apparent. Who knew such a small mount could be such a fierce opponent? In the slow-motion version, be sure to keep an eye on the driver's form. It's pure bull rider.

Here's the only clip that ends with the flipped car still very much in the race. It comes from the late Colin McRae's 2006 XGames performance, and it shows why he'll be remembered as one of the greatest rally drivers of all time. Just amazing.

What starts with a beautiful flight ends badly when this Subaru nosedives back to earth. See if you can count how many times the car barrel rolls. Bonus points for not vomiting.

In terms of vertical air, this clip is hard to beat. As one commenter notes, the driver "finishes off nicely by standing on four wheels." Well done indeed, but a closer eye will note that the car lands on three wheels, with the fourth rolling off behind the car during the final rotation.

We've made it this far without including a single compilation film, but we just couldn't resist here. And it isn't really a compilation, per se, but the same accident happening over and over with different cars. Plus, we just love the guy who starts screaming "aye aye aye aye aye" after each and every car slides into the ditch. Classic.
