Hyundai Experimenting With Genesis V-8 Cylinder Deactivation

We're hoping you've already read our exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Hyundai's supercharged SEMA project car, but if you haven't, please do. There's one detail we left out of that story because, well, we didn't know it until now. Along with 460 force-fed horsepower, the Genesis RKSport's engine also boasts fuel economy gains.

The added fuel economy comes from cylinder deactivation, and the result is fuel economy figures of 18/27, putting this ultimate Genesis on par with the efficient V-6 model. Will this technology make production? "Advanced technology is a cornerstone of our plans to improve efficiency and fuel economy across our lineup," says powertrain director John Juriga. To us, that means we should see the Genesis V-8 making the EPA a bit happier some time soon.
