VW Polo Lineup Grows with "GT Rocket" and "Black/Silver" Editions

The Volkswagen Polo remains one of our favorite pieces of forbidden fruit, being fully capable of sale in the United States yet unsalable here due to labor and certfication costs — the Polo is a nice car, but not nice enough to justify the $22,000 it would cost to sell 'em profitably.

The Polo tauntlineup in Germany has been sweetened even further with the addition of the GT Rocket and Black/Silver special editions. Essentially clever names for body kits and sporty wheels, both trim levels kit up the basic Polo hatchback with foglamps, front and rear air dams, a hatchback spoiler, special wheels, and unique upholstery on the seats and floor mats. One thing it doesn't do is upgrade the Polo's basic 1.4-liter, 80-horsepower engine, leading us to believe that "GT Rocket" may not exactly be truth in advertising, but whatever. If Dodge Neons could be sold with a "Sport" model for a decade, we're willing to let VW call their car whatever they want.
